1. Think what to include: The most important thing that would improve our photography is the realization that photography is mostly an art of exclusion, and not an art of inclusion. By this we mean when a person is taking a picture he/she needs to realize that only part of what you see is going to be in the picture. As an example consider yourself at a beautiful beach. You decide to capture the beautiful sunset, and take your camera. When you use your camera to capture that event, you will never get all the things into the camera, that your eyes see normally. The picture our viewer is going to see, is essentially contained in a two dimensional rectangle. The decision of what to include in that rectangle’s boundaries is very important.
2. Always think of ways to emphasize the subject: What ever you include in the frame can be roughly divided into two things. A. The subject B. Everything Else. Often we are so focused on the part A we completely ignore part B. The “Everything else” part should add to the subject and make it stronger else it will weaken your photograph. In simple terms do not include things that do not need to be in the picture.
3. Proper Composition: Central composition is for symmetry and strength, off center for asymmetry and beauty. Also look for diagonals, or elements that give you that leading of the eye to the subject.
4. Use proper depth of field: Use small depth of field to pop the subject out of the picture, and use a high Depth of field for subjects like landscapes. In general, only keep the subject in focus if you can.
5. Slow down: Yes slow down and take the photographs in a deliberate thoughtful way instead of rushing through the process.
